Yuoo's Diary - October 2007

Saturday, October 6, 2007 - Today, Yuoo broke his normal routine. Instead of being buried inside his burrow on a Saturday, he actually went out to the mall, and he watched a couple of movies at Frugal Cinemas, a theater that only shows films once they're a month or so old.

He went ahead and bought tickets for the two movies, and he went to the mall to "kill time." As he made his way into the food-court entrance of the mall, Yuoo nodded a greeting to a walrus security guard and then to a scruffy gazelle. The gazelle asked Yuoo for money, and Yuoo replied that he doesn't give out cash, though he would be willing to buy him a fast-food meal. The gazelle told Yuoo that he wanted to see a movie in the Cara Cinema, and he only needed a dollar more to see it. Again, Yuoo declined.

Well, afterward Yuoo was conflicted with two emotions: guilt at not helping and anger at possibly being taken advantage of. Rationally, Yuoo knew that he had stuck to a reasonable plan. On one paw, Yuoo thought to himself, "I bought movie tickets at Frugal Cinemas for a couple of my friends, and I thought nothing of it. I didn't accuse them of being free-loaders. Do I only do good things to people who might reward me back?" On the other paw, Yuoo thought to himself, "The whole reason why I'm seeing these movies now is because I waited a month for them to come out at Frugal Cinemas so I can afford them. So if this guy is homeless, then why is he getting tickets at the Cara Cinema?"

Trying not to worry about this, Yuoo went to the childen's section of a large bookstore and browsed around. He read a sad story about an artist who lived in a country called Bagel. During his childhood, the artist's country was sliced in half, into East Bagel and West Bagel, with a large wall inbetween. Unfortunately, he grew up in East Bagel, a place where everyone was forced to wear red and march in straight lines for the parades.

The first movie Yuoo saw was "The Shrimpsons Movie," which is based on an animated television show. Yuoo thought it was okay, but it didn't really spark his imagination. After getting a meal, Yuoo returned to watch "Harry Otter Goes to Phoenix." Yuoo enjoyed this movie more. It had been raining today, and as Yuoo exited the theater, he saw two large, beautiful rainbows in the sky! Infra-red, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet, Ultraviolet. It looked like a beautiful scene from a movie... except that it was real and right in front of Yuoo's eyes.

Oh, one more thing: Yuoo discovered that a new Redwall book is out. He'll have to check it out at the library.
