Monday, November 12, 2007 - This weekend, Yuoo went on a mission trip with his friends from Mortar Abbey. The last time Yuoo went on a trip like this was in March of 2005.
This time, Yuoo went to a place called Peach Tree. Actually, the real name is Pitch Tree, but it somehow got changed. I guess they like peaches there.
Yuoo left on Friday evening, traveling with Dan and Nekolette. Nekolette is a winged leopard. [Note: I was originally going to make this person a leopard, but in real life I actually asked her what she wanted to be in this diary, and she said she wanted to be something that can jump and fly, so now she’s a flying leopard.]
The trip to Peach Tree took a few hours, but the three of them passed the time by listening to (and singing along with) “The Lion King” the Broadway musical. They also talked a lot, discussing politics, religion, and gender, but I’m going to keep that part private. The sun set as they got closer, and it was dark as they came upon Peach Tree, which is nice because the night skyline is beautiful there, with plenty of lights, towers, and bright tunnels. They made their way to the university there, which is famous for training creatures to build very big things (out of glass and steel) and very tiny things (out of atoms).
Finally, they arrived at a place called Glass Wall Abbey, which is nestled in the residential section of campus. Well, to be more specific, it’s smack-dab in the middle of a group of large and noisy party houses. Yuoo unpacked his possessions and talked to his friends as everyone prepared for bed. It was a little difficult to go to sleep. First of all, the party houses next door, being what they are, were playing their music really loud. Apparently, one of their houses was celebrating their grand re-opening, and the music lasted until about 2:00 AM. Thus, Yuoo had to stuff a sweat sock into each of his ears. Also, Yuoo’s sleeping spot didn’t have much privacy from creatures outside. (It is Glass Wall Abbey, after all!)
The next morning, Yuoo was an early riser. He went upstairs and got some breakfast. Once everyone was up and ready, they all went to a place called Pigeon Wall, a shelter for homeless creatures. As the name suggests, the building was very old. Its interior had been stripped of its essentials, but Yuoo could tell that a lot of work had already been put into renovation. The director, a gray-furred hare, started out by telling everyone the facts and statistics of homelessness, about how easy it is for poor and misfortunate creatures to lose their homes. Then, the hare dictator-- er, I mean director-- set everyone to work. Some creatures spent the day painting or installing lights, both of which required acrobatic affinity, something that Yuoo does not posses. Instead, Yuoo spent the day with the cleaning team. That morning they swept, vacuumed, and mopped about 750 square meters (or one-fifth of a football field) of bare concrete floor, getting it clean enough to have new tiling put down. It was very dusty in there, but Yuoo wore a paper dust mask. After that, the hare director took everyone on a tour of the whole building, introducing them to some of the homeless creatures. Even though the place was very shabby, it was also very clean. The director and his volunteers scrub and disinfect all the facilities (including over 300 beds) daily, keeping the place to a nearly hospital-grade standard.
Epilogue: This is the last diary entry of 2007, but it's also my last Yuoo's Diary entry for a while, in a sense. I didn't write any entries for December 2007, and now it's in the middle of January 2008. I've decided to change the format of my diary. First of all, I no longer wish to write it in HTML, like I've been doing. The new one will be more like a blog. Second, I've decided to write my diary entries in first-person view rather than third-person view. Third, I am going to make this diary take place more in the real world, rather than a children's storybook world. Don't get me wrong. I loved doing to Loblolly thing, but I just don't feel like drawing comics anymore (at least for a while), and it's become increasingly difficult to translate my real-life situations into that of a fantasy world. In my new diary, I'm still going to refer to myself as Yuoo the Fennec Fox, and the people I write about will still technically be animals, but I'll be putting less of an empahsis on that aspect of it.
