I wish I could draw a better picture for you, but working as an artist has a way of draining your creativity during your off-duty hours. And no, those aren't high-heel shoes. Those are Birkenstock bicycling shoes. (That's what I bought them for, at least.)

Today, Yuoo went to an elderly residence and played the piano. The thing he likes most about playing there is that everyone enjoys his music. They can tell when he plays a song particulary well, and they're very forgiving when he botches up a song. The workers there tell Yuoo that everyone looks forward to his arrival each week (and he can tell that they're telling the truth). But ego-boost aside, Yuoo knows that everyone needs music.
Yesterday, Yuoo went to the farmer's market and bought a watermellon.
Also, Yuoo got a chance to speak with his friend, Mander Squirrel. He had lost her contact information for quite a while, but he found her again. She is getting married later this year, and soon she will be called Mander Meko*. Yuoo would like to attend her wedding, so he has to save up for airfare and arrange time off from work.
*The word Meko means "cat friend" in Japanespaņol. ;-)
Tuesday, June 27, 2006 -Yuoo has been working at the Etheratory for over a month, and he has learned that they study much more than just ether there. First, there are several alchemy laboratories, and sometimes strange and unpleasant smells float through the hallways as a result of their experiments.
Next, there are several laboratories where the luxmages practice. What is a luxmage, you ask? It's someone who studies light (or lux), with its many amazing properties. The luxmages can focus light into intense beams of energy, and they amuse themselves by bouncing these beams off of mirrors and onto targets. For this reason, the labs are well-shielded, and there are warning signs on the doors.
However, Yuoo was most surprised to learn that biomancery is also practiced there. Biomancery is the study of the essence of life. Among other things, biomancers can take the qualities of one living creature and infuse them into another living creature. Yuoo has some ethical concerns about the field of biomancery, but after hearing about how it is practiced at the Etheratory, he is pretty sure that it doesn't go against the Teachings of Aslan, so Yuoo tries to keep an open mind about it.

A playing field for the game of Nine Spot, viewed from above (top illustration) and from the side (bottom illustration). The outer circle is approximately 5 meters (16 ft) in diameter. The Nine Spot field lies within a parabolic (dish-shaped) pit.
Today after work, Yuoo went to Mortar Abbey to have dinner with his friends. Afterward, they all played a game called Nine Spot. Yuoo was never able to progress to the nine-spot (the center circle, also called the champion's spot), but he had fun playing. The rules for this game are quite similar to the game Four Square. The game has nine players at a time, and it is played by bouncing a large rubber ball (a kickball or a dodgeball) between each spot.
