What did Yuoo do New Year's Eve? He went to bed early!

Well, Happy New Year. :-) These past few days have been quite eventful. Some workers came and put in new carpeting in Yuoo's house, and the finished up the linoleum. It was quite hectic getting everything packed and unpacked afterward, but Yuoo is really glad to finally go about the house bare-pawed, not having to worry about an sharp nails poking up or chalky concrete dust getting everywhere.

I forgot to tell you about Yuoo's New Year's Resolution. Yuoo wants to have a healthy heart, so he has been trying to eat healthier, get more exercise, and reach his target weight. For a male Fennec fox that is 1.4 meters tall (not including ears), that would be about 36 kilograms.

Right now, Yuoo weighs 45 kilograms, and his goal for this year is to reach and maintain 40 kilograms. Pass the spinich! :-)

Today, Yuoo went to a hardware store for a few house supplies. Even though the plumbers, carpeters, and carpenters have done a wonderful job, there are still a few things that Yuoo will do himself. The bathrooms need to be painted, the bathtub needs to be recaulked, and Yuoo's bedroom window needs to be tinted to get rid of the horrible glare that appears on Yuoo's computer screen at about five o'clock in the afternoon. He won't rush, though. School is coming up, and he'll be saving these projects as weekend adventures.

Oh, and he did buy a windchime for his front door while he was there. He got it because it plays a particular sequence of notes, something called the Pentatonic Scale, that he particularly likes. Yuoo isn't a New Ager, but he does find something very sublime and etherial about notes in their purest form.

The next time you see some wind chimes at the store (preferrably the big ones with the deep notes), hit one of the tubes, and as it vibrates, put your ear as close as you can without touching it.

Yesterday, Yuoo went to the library where he checked out a wildlife documentary film made by Michael Moose. Before I tell you about this documentary, let me explain something first. The country that Yuoo is a citizen of is governed for the most part by two groups of creatures: the elephants and the donkeys. Other creatures are allowed to run for office too, but donkeys support donkeys and elephants support elephants, so it's a little harder for other creatures to get elected. (A macaw named Ross Parrot came very close to winning a few years ago, but he didn't make it.)

Anyway, yesterday Yuoo watched a very controversial wildlife documentary made by Michael Moose. This film is about the current elephant leader, the one who holds office, and this film says that he is a mad elephant who goes around squashing innocent creatures under his feet. This made Yuoo feel very bad because he happens to like the elephants. (Yuoo has respect for the donkeys and other creatures too, but he personally favors the elephants more.) Yuoo is very confused and perplexed about this film. Part of him wants to get angry at Mr. Moose for making the film. "The elephant leader would never do that!" says Yuoo, "I bet Mr. Moose is just using sneaky camera tricks and a fake elephant suit." But on the other hand, it scares Yuoo to think that maybe it's really true. What if the elephant leader really does go around squashing innocent creatures when nobeast is looking? If Yuoo knew for a fact that the elephant leader is truly a mad elephant, then Yuoo would join the donkeys and help cheer them on.

As it stands right now, Yuoo is not convinced by Michael Moose's words. After all, he might be a mad moose himself! But for right now, Yuoo will keep his ears open and ponder these things in his heart. Yuoo will try his best to be a creature that listens and seeks what is good.

Last night, Yuoo got 12 hours of sleep. (He went to bed very very early.) Today was the first day of school for students in Loblolly. Although he didn't have any classes scheduled for today, Yuoo did go to school to take care of business and attend a meeting. You see, this semester he is working as a teaching assistant (T.A.) for a class called Introduction to Spellweaving. This course is taught by somebeast named Dr. Corgi, and Yuoo will be assisting her by grading papers and reports. Also, Yuoo gets his own office! (Well, sorta. It's more of a side-room shared by Yuoo and his fellow TA's. But still, he gets his own key and computer and everything.)

Yuoo has a very strange schedule. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, he has no classes (except for T.A. duties). However, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Yuoo has several classes, he sum of which go from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM! (He doesn't mind the early part, but he doesn't function very well at night. Yuoo is very much a morning fox.)

Also today, Yuoo bought a candy jar and some candy to put in his office. Part of his duties are the help students who have questions, so maybe this might help brighten their day, Yuoo thinks. This practice was inspired by one of Yuoo's favorite professors.

Monday, January 30, 2006 - I was going to do a multi-part series about Mortar Abbey (making this more into a webcomic), but I found that I just didn't have the time. I'll still try to draw comics if I can, but I think it's better if I focus more on day-to-day events.

Well, school is starting to get a little busy for Yuoo. He's grading papers, doing homework, and staying busy. A couple of days ago, Yuoo had some blood drawn at the healers' clinic for a medical test, and he learned that he's no longer afraid of this. His goal is to muster enough courage to donate blood, something that he's always been too afraid to do.
